Railway Minister holds a review meeting with GM/SER

Kolkata: Minister for Railways Piyush Goyal chaired a Review Meeting with General Manager, South Eastern Railway S. N. Agrawal and other Principal Heads of the Departments at North Block, New Delhi. A detailed discussion was held to ensure punctuality, cleanliness, improvement of Catering services and to ensure the journey of the passengers on all trains in a pleasing and comfortable manner.

Railway Minister appreciated the performance of South Eastern Railway about the punctual train running which is in the better position amongst all Zonal Railways. While presenting SER’s performance, Shri Agrawal said that though the majority of the sections of SER is having 100% utilisation this railway has been striving all along to maintain its punctuality in every respect. He also appreciated the initiatives taken by this railway in the cleanliness of both stations & trains.

Railway Minister said that the root causes of punctuality loss should be critically analysed and remedial measures should invariably be taken. Railway Minister stated that the punctuality of all trains should be ensured. Shri Goyal advised arresting asset failures which cause the train detention in the majority of the cases. Shri Goyal laid special thrust on the safety of train movement during his discourse with the General Manager and said that there should be no complacency about the railway safety.

General Manager, Shri Agrawal apprised the Hon’ble Railway Minister of the success in elimination of unmanned level crossings. South Eastern Railway, during 2017-18 has eliminated 212 unmanned level crossings against the target of 181 unmanned level crossings which is 117% of the annual target. There are presently 103 unmanned level crossings in South Eastern Railway which will be eliminated in mission mode within the target date.

As railway projects are concerned, Shri Goyal said that where there is the advantageous scope of railway revenue and public utility services, those railway projects should be completed expeditiously.

Shri Goyal appealed to all young officers of the Zones to come out with suggestions for the betterment of the Indian Railways in every sphere of working. He personally interacted with some of the officers of Divisions through Video Conferencing.

The Review Meeting was concluded with valuable suggestions and appreciations of Minister of Railways in a cordial manner.
