NCR Goes green: Installs 7.7 Megawatt solar power plants
Signs MOU with ‘EESL’ & makes 302 stations LED-LIT & 341 LC gates solar
Allahabad Bureau : NCR has been working on the installation of Solar Power Plants at its facilities like Stations, Divisional Offices and its Headquarter Office situated in Subedarganj in Allahabad. Under the Guidance of GM/NCR M. C. Chauhan, Solar Power Plants with an installed capacity of 7.7 MWp (Mega Watt peak production) have been installed in NCR in the current financial year, till 28th February 2018. Of these 6.5 MWp have been installed under a new sanction of 10 MW.
Thus, by the end of the current financial year, the Zonal Railway is all set to take this figure up to 11.12 MW. “Our offices and rooftops of our facilities and installations have great potential for generation of Solar Power. Sun’s rays give off approximately 1000 watts of energy per square meter of the planet’s surface which can easily be used for power generation, and we are taking advantage of this potential” says GM/NCR about this achievement and the future plans. One MWp of installed capacity of Solar Power, on an average, means the generation of 3700 units of electricity per day.
Thus, the already installed Solar Power Plants in NCR are generating 28,490 units of green electricity per day. Multiply this figure by 365, and the saving-figure becomes a whopping 10,398,850 (One crore, Three Lakhs, Ninety-Eight Thousand, Eight Hundred and Fifty) units per annum.
In monitory terms, this solar electricity generation translates into an annual saving of Rs: 6 Crore in electricity bills and, in terms of the positive environmental impact it means a reduction of CO2 emissions by 5562 tonnes per annum.
Apart from the generation of solar energy, NCR has also taken other important steps towards energy conservation. One of these is the MOU which the Zone has recently signed with EESL-a joint venture company under the Ministry of Power that aims at the implementation of energy efficiency projects in India.
In this project with EESL, the annual savings in electrical energy will be approximately 4.13 million units, translating into an annual revenue saving of Rs: 2.77 Crore and reduction in CO2 emissions by 2973 tonne per annum.
NCR has also installed solar power panels at Level Crossing Gates 341 locations and has made 302 of its 405 stations completely illuminated by energy saving and long-lasting LED lights.
“We have taken a multi-pronged approach to achieve maximum savings in electricity combining both generations of green-electricity and conservation of electricity produced by conventional sources,” says GM/NCR. That the savings are annual and recurring in nature, augurs well for the environment as the environmental benefits will add up year after year for generations to come.
