ASC/RPSF shot dead in Meghalaya, constable arrested

SHILLONG: An Assistant Security Commandant (ASC) of the Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF) was killed and three others were injured when a Constable of the force opened fire from his service rifle AK47 in Meghalaya’s South West Khasi Hills district on Sunday, 25th February 2018, following which the accused was arrested, the police said.

“The constable was arrested and his service rifle seized. The investigation into the incident is underway,” Superintendent of Police H. G. Lyngdoh said.

Assistant Commandant Mukesh Chand Tyagi was shot dead by constable Arjun Deshwal at the Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF) camp in Mawkyrwat town of the district bordering Bangladesh, said Meghalaya Chief Electoral Officer F. R. Kharkongor.

In the ensuing scuffle, another constable, Joginder Kumar, received bullet injury on his arm and was sent for treatment to the North East Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Science here, he said.

Inspector Pradeep Meena and Sub-Inspector Om Prakash Yadav also suffered minor injuries, the CEO said.

Elections to Meghalaya’s 60-member Assembly will be held on February 27.

A large number of central security forces have been deployed in the state for the elections.


SER to run 5 pairs of AC Super fast special between Santragachi and Hapa

Kolkata : With a view to clear extra rush of passengers, South Eastern Railway has decided to run five pairs of AC Superfast Special trains between Santragachi-Hapa-Santragachi during the period from 02.03.18 to 02.04.18.

Santragachi-Hapa (02838) Special leaving Santragachi at 21.05 hrs every Friday will reach Hapa at 15.50 hrs, on Sunday. In the opposite direction, Hapa-Santragachi Special (02839) leaving Hapa at 10.40 hrs every Monday will arrive Santragachi at 05.45 hrs, on Wednesday.

The Special trains consisting of fourteen AC 3-Tier coaches will have stoppages at Kharagpur, Tatanagar, Chakradharpur, Rourkela, Jharsuguda, Bilaspur, Raipur, Durg, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, Badnera, Akola, Malkapur, Bhusaval, Jalgaon, Amalner, Nandurbar, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Nandiad, Ahmedabad, Viramgam, Sunar, Wakaner and Rajkot between Santragachi and Hapa.
