GM/SER graces ‘Diamond Jubilee’ celebrations of 1st AC Traction

Kolkata: The Diamond Jubilee Celebrations of Country’s first AC Traction is being observed at Dangoaposi, Chaibasa, and Kendposi simultaneously on 15th December 2018. General Manager, South Eastern Railway P. S. Mishra, Divisional Railway Manager, Chakradharpur Chhatrasal Singh, and Principal Head of the Departments of South Eastern Railway along with other Senior Railway officers were present to Commemorate the 60th year of India’s first AC Traction in Chakradharpur Division.

Dangoaposi, Chaibasa and Kendposi stations have been decorated & beautified with lights and flowers. Huge Railway Employees and other local people were assembled to participate in this grand celebrations.
The first Electric Traction was started on 15th December 1959 in the Mining Hub of Rajkharswan-Dangoaposi section of Chakradharpur Division. The first train on 25KV alternating current (AC) traction ran on that day. With path-breaking event, India became the second Country after Japan in Asia to adopt 25KV AC Traction.
Today is the momentous day, as it enters the 60th year, AC Traction has spread over 30,000 Route Kms. Indian Railways have now set an ambitious target for Electrification of its entire network by the year 2022.
Loading performance of Chakradharpur Division is remarkably satisfactory. To generate more revenue earning freight, this kind of AC Electric Traction was set up in the loading area of Chakradharpur Division where Electric locomotives were used to haul freight trains. This Electric Traction has completed its glorious 60 years.
