‘Mafia Union King’ organising GM’s Cup Cricket Tournament
Southern Railway is the best railway to work in Indian Railways!
‘SCL-Mela’ has been organised in the year when union elections are to be held, is it a co-incidence?
Chennai: In Southern Railway, a section of the employees have a very easy life, facilitated by the high powers in extremely innovative ways. The latest is a two day holiday to play cricket, even for employees who are not recruited on sports quota.
Yes, Southern Railway Sports Association (SRSA) has joined with Perambur railway institute (controlled by mafia union king N. Kanniah) to organise a ‘General Manager’s Cricket Cup-2018’ after a period of nearly 10 years.
More than 50 teams have enrolled for the tournament which started last week and will go on for more than one month.
The key point is: every team has submitted a list of 15 to 18 players for the tournament, which will have a 10 over match. Not even the Indian National cricket team takes so many players on a foreign tour.
All these players will be given a special casual leave (SCL), a paid holiday, on the day of the cricket match.
Sources have told ‘Rail Samachar’ that every day, at least four to five matches are organised by the organisers. This means that on an average more than 120 Railway employees will be on leave for the next one month.
Many will even be travelling to Chennai from other parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala and will claim Travel Allowance (TA), sources says.
‘Rail samachar’ has seen some of the names of the players in these teams. They are technicians, ticket checkers, trackmen and even Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable. All these are employees who are directly responsible for passenger services, safety and maintenance of coaches and tracks will be on leave.
Railway officials say this is how employee friendly Southern Railway is. “Taxpayers money is being given as salary to railway employees for playing cricket. It is the best railway to work in Indian Railways.” Railway officers say.
Cricket is given high importance in Southern Railway as Mafia Union King N. Kanniah is a ‘cricket enthusiast’ and practices the game till date. He even has good friends in Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) sources say. IPL match tickets were regularly given to senior officials of SRSA by Kanniah, the sources say.
It is no co-incidence that this massive cricket tournament which is an ‘SCL-Mela’ has been organised in the year when union elections are to be held. Will employees vote for Kanniah and SRMU because of cricket? Only time will tell.
