South Eastern Railway Celebrates 63rd Railway Week

Kolkata: South Eastern Railway celebrated the 63rd Railway Week Award Function at Rabindra Sadan, Kolkata on 19th April 2018 with great enthusiasm and gaiety. S. N. Agrawal, General Manager, South Eastern Railway graced the occasion as Chief Guest while Anirban Datta, Addl.General Manager along with Principal Head of Departments attended the function. Divisional Railway Manager of Kharagpur, Adra, Chakradharpur and Ranchi and the representatives of different Associations including a large number of staff and officers were also present on the occasion.

As many as 100 selected railway staff & officers were felicitated with Merit Certificates, Cash Awards and Efficiency Badges in recognition of their outstanding services and devotion to duty during the year 2017-18. The Overall Efficiency Shield was awarded to Chakradharpur Division for the best all-round performance. Kharagpur, Adra and Ranchi divisions also received another category of shields for their outstanding performance. Bokaro Steel City Station of Adra Division has been adjudged as the Best Kept Station.

Sri S N Agrawal, General Manager complimented the railway men for their utmost efforts to achieve this commendable performance.  He appealed to the employees to make all-out efforts to achieve the satisfaction of passengers and freight customers & advised them to be extremely cautious in matters relating to safety and security of passengers.

Shri Agrawal stated that South Eastern Railway has made a mark in revenue earning freight loading. South Eastern Railway during the financial year 2017-18 has loaded 150.76 million tonnes of freight which is 2.05% more than the last year (2016-17). General Manager also added that as a result of this record freight loading, South Eastern Railway generated freight earnings of Rs 12007.35 crores in 2017-18 which is 10.16% more than the previous financial year.

In the Passenger sector, South Eastern Railway earned Rs 1568.56 crores in 2017-18 as against Rs. 1501.60 crores earned from passenger traffic in 2016-17, achieving a growth of 4.46%. SER generated a surplus of Rs 6456.20 crores in 2017-18. Shri Agrawal stated that this level of operational efficiency and financial prudence has resulted in an improved operating ratio of 75.92%. GM/SER added that in 2017-18 SER has achieved 95.66% punctuality in mail/express trains which is second highest in Indian Railways.

This apart GM spoke about timely completion of railway projects, elimination of unmanned level crossings and safety & security of passengers which got paramount importance. SER’s sports performance, welfare activities, cleanliness both at stations and in trains, various passenger-friendly initiatives etc. were highlighted in the address of the General Manager. A colorful cultural programme was also organized by the cultural team of Divisions & Headquarters of SER on this occasion.


South Eastern Railway Bags Signal & Telecommunication Shield

South Eastern Railway has received the prestigious Signal & Telecommunication Shield jointly with Northern Railway at the 63rd Railway Week National Award Function held at Bhopal on 16.04.18. Minister of Railways  Piyush Goyal handed over the Shield to S. N. Agrawal, General Manager, South Eastern Railway and Vishwesh Chaube, General Manager, Northern Railway in presence of Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Chief Minister, Madhya Pradesh and Manoj Sinha. Minister of State for Railways. S. K. Biswas Principal Chief Signal and Telecom Engineer, South Eastern Railway was also present.


S E Railway felicitates members of Indian Railways Body Building Team

Kolkata: Indian Railways Body Building Team emerged champions in the Senior National Body Building Championship held at Pune recently. Shri Anirban Datta, Additional General Manager, South Eastern Railway recently felicitated the Body Builders of S E Railway who represented the Indian Railways team. J. K. Saha, Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer and President S E Railway Sports Association (SERSA) were also present at the felicitation ceremony held at SER Headquarters, Garden Reach.

Ram Niwas, N. Sarbo Singh, Javed Ali Khan, Kundan Kumar Gope and J. J. Chakraborty of South Eastern Railway who represented Indian Railways played a major role in achieving the Title in the Senior National Body Building Championship. Indian Railways team consisted of 12 bodybuilders out of which the above 5 bodybuilders were from South Eastern Railway.

Ram Niwas of South Eastern Railway was declared as the Champion of Champions in the tournament while N Sarbo Singh was also declared as the Best Poser of the tournament.

J J Chakraborty of South Eastern Railway bagged 55 Kg. Weight Category Title and won the Gold Medal. Javed Ali Khan and Kundan Kumar Gope of South Eastern Railway won Silver and Bronze respectively.


Provision of the solar system by SER for clean and green energy

Kolkata: As a part of its endeavor towards clean and green energy, South Eastern Railway has continued to provide solar power system to meet energy consumption for its future requirements as well. This is a unique concept yet effective in saving time and energy. To save conventional energy, South Eastern Railway has taken a lot of initiatives to switch over to non-conventional sources in phases.

In the first phase, administrative offices, stations & level crossing gates are on the list and gradually this will be installed in Rly.Quarters of the SER jurisdiction. These arrangements provide clean light energy without heat and give sufficient light. It is absolutely maintenance free and saving Electrical Energy to a tune of huge units every year.

PROVISION OF SOLAR PANELS IN SER IN 2017-18:

* 50kwp panels have been provided each on the rooftop of the New Administrative Buildings, Garden Reach, and Central Hospital. Total 100kwp.

* 106kwp has been provided on the rooftop of Medical Hospital of  Chakradharpur Division. 50kwp has been commissioned on the rooftop of Engg Building, Chakradharpur and 50kwp have been commissioned on the rooftop of the control, ADRM building, Chakradharpur. In total-206kwp.

* 150kwp has been provided on the rooftop of System Training Centre, Kharagpur and 100kwp have been commissioned on the rooftop of New Apprentice Hostel Building, Kharagpur.

* A solar system with 6 panels of 74kwp capacity each has been provided departmentally at Lohardaga station of Ranchi Division. A solar system with 6 panels of 74kwp has also been provided departmentally at Tanger Bansli station of Ranchi Division to cater the load of PRS at Tanger Bansli at daytime.

* Provision of a 1kwp panel at Ogra station of Ranchi Divn. Provision of a 2kwp solar panel at Talgoria station of Adra Divn. Provision of 1.5kwp solar water pumping at Nimdih station of Adra Division .1 HP pump with 110 volt 3-phase AC Motor having variable frequency drive. 2000 liters discharge per hour on a bright summer day.

* 45 Level Crossing gates have been electrified with solar.

South Eastern Railway, in this way, has commissioned 564.71kwp capacity solar power plants which have reduced consumption of electrical energy.
