NCR creates a record in loading: Puts forth ‘Best Ever’ performance
Exceeding previous year’s performance by 23.7% & target by 16.03%
Allahabad Bureau: While the passenger segment is the more visible part of the operations of IR, it’s the goods segment that keeps the economy of the country ticking. A number of important indices are used to measure the efficiency of operation in the goods sector. But of all the indices, ‘Loading’ is perhaps the most important index for measurement of the health and growth of the goods operations in any Zonal Railway of IR.
It is in this benchmark index that the North Central Railway has made a record this financial year. Surpassing not only the previous year’s performance but also the targets given by the Ministry of Railways; NCR has put forth its best-ever performance in this crucial field ever since its inception in the year 2003. That the zonal railway has achieved this feat despite not having any natural resources to load such as Coal, Iron Ore, Bauxite, Minerals, Steel, Wood etc. makes it even more remarkable.
As per the data released by the NCR for the current financial year, from April-2017 to February- 2018, the originating loading from NCR has been 13.1 Million Tonnes, which when compared to 10.576 Million Tonnes loading in the same period in the last financial year, shows an improvement of 23.8% over the previous financial year. This loading performance is also the ‘best ever’ for NCR ever since its inception.
The zonal railway has also outperformed the target of loading given by the Railway Board by 16.03%. Another unique feature of the loading performance of NCR this financial year has been that for the first time the loading in each month of the financial year has been more than 1.0 million tonnes, with the loading in February 2018 touching 1.38 MT-another ‘best-ever’ for NCR for any single month-achieved in 28 days against 30/31 days in other months.
Speaking about the achievement, GM/NCR M. C. Chauhan says that this is the result of proactive steps taken by the NCR which have motivated the existing customers for increasing loading by rail. Officers of NCR have met the customers loading POL, Mustard Oil, Sugar, Foodgrains, and Ballast (Stone) in NCR and have actively addressed their issues, especially in the realm of adequate and timely supply of empty rakes for loading.
At the same time, new traffic of ballast (stone) has been captured by opening Bijauli andShanichara stations of Jhansi Division and Manda and Malwan stations of Allahabad Division of NCR for outward loading.
Loading of container traffic from ICDs in Dadri, Jabalpur, Kanpur, and Malanpur (Jhansi) has also been improved by ensuring smooth movement of container trains from NR and WR over NCR to these ICDs, he adds.
The best ever loading performance by NCR augurs well for the economy of the entire region and shows that in the highly competitive goods segment, NCR is firmly on the path of growth.
