Harsh punishment imposed on an employee of the Chennai Society by the Management
It is a total shame that the Society, which is being managed by a leading Railway Union, is taking such anti-employee stands and indulging in unfair labour practices
Chennai : The Railway Employees’ Co-Operative Credit Society Ltd. (RECCS), well known as “Chennai Society” wanted to victimise the employee only because he is a member of the union, RECSSU, which has raised disputes against several unfair labour practices of the Management, said an office bearer of the union.
After the punishment, the employee’s salary was reduced drastically so that it is not enough for bare minimum survival, he said.
He say, “this is a typical example of the victimisation and harassment meted out the employees by the Management of the Society”.
The Society is managed by SRMU/AIRF, the recognised union of Southern Railway.
The Chairman of the Society is Mr. N. Kanniah, General Secretary of SRMU and working president of AIRF.
Mr. N. Manivannan, who is the Chief Executive of the Society, is the AGS of SRMU/AIRF.
“It is a total shame that the Society, which is being managed by the office bearers of a leading Railway Union, is taking such anti-employee stands and indulging in unfair labour practices”.
He told that the charges against the employee are based on the rules unilaterally created by the directors of the Society.
He say, “though there is a Madras High court division bench’s order against the Society to implement the standing order with regard to the service conditions of the Society, the Management of the Society appealed against the High Court order in the Supreme Court only to drag and delay the matter”.
The union of charge employee, RECSSU, has raised disputes with regard to the Service Rules and the same are pending in the Industrial Tribunal, Chennai.
“To punish this employee when such disputes are pending is totally against section 33(b) of the Industrial Disputes Act”, he said.
The Society is using the pandemic situation to further victimise its employees.
“It is a total shame for a recognised Railway union – SRMU, and a federation – AIRF, which are supposed to safeguard the rights of the workmen, whose office bearers are indulged in such oppression and victimisation of fellow workmen”, he said.
They urged the other office bearers of AIRF to advise Mr. Kanniah and Mr. Manivannan not to indulge in such inhuman activities so that there will be some respite to the employees of the Society at last.
The actual charge against the employee – Paghutharivanan N. C., TY CPC O.A. – is that of damaging a fellow employee’s mobile phone which cast a few thousand maximum.
By such harsh punishment the employees salary is reduced by nearly Rs. 10,000 per month for next three years.
