Indian Railways continue its endeavour against Covid-19 pandemic on all possible fronts
Prime Minister Narendra Modi appreciated efforts of Indian Railways in ‘Mann Ki Baat’ broadcasted on Sunday, 26th April. He said that Railway men are working continuously to obviate shortage of essential goods in any part of the country.
He specifically mentioned that Indian Railways is running more than 100 parcel trains on about 60 routes.
With this motto to serve, Indian Railways is continuing its endeavour against Covid-19 pandemic at all fronts. Railway Corona warriors are not only ensuring continuous freight and parcel train operations but also fighting COVID-19 with many innovation, social distancing and sanitation efforts.
Some notable efforts of Indian Railways are as under-
· Average speed of goods and parcel trains is improving continuously. While 75 Kmph plus average speed is being maintained for parcel trains, average goods train is also touching all-time best figure of 50 Kmph.
· In April till 25th total 245 timetabled parcel trains have been operated of which 212 ran on scheduled time with overall punctuality of 86.5 %. NCR have booked approximately 140 tones parcel traffic of essential goods during lockdown.
· NCR has so far operated 32 long-haul (two freight trains coupled together) trains in April thus increase in throughput of the section.
· About 1.5 lakh reusable face covers and 8000 liters sanitizer have been produced inhouse by different units.
· About 75000 cooked meals have been served to needy persons so far during lockdown besides distributing ration among porters, cleaning staff, labourers, daily wagers etc.
· North Central Railway is also producing coverall an important part of PPE for medical personnel and have prepared 1150 coverall so far with contribution of 750 and 400 respectively from Jhansi workshop and Prayagraj division. NCR have planned to make close to 10000 coverall units to protect our frontline corona warriors from infection.
· So far approximately 105000 Arogya Setu App are installed on mobile phones of Railway employees and their family members.
