SER’s FREIGHT TRAFFIC IS AHEAD OF RAILWAY BOARD’S TARGET

April-July of 2019-20, South Eastern Railway has loaded 55.56 million tonnes of freight

Kolkata: During the first four months of the current financial year i.e. April-July of 2019-20, South Eastern Railway has loaded 55.56 million tonnes of freight as against 49.35 million tonnes loaded during the corresponding period of last year, registering a growth of 12.58%. SER has also surpassed Railway Board’s target of 52.35 million tonnes fixed for the period by loading 3.21 million tonnes more than the target.

The major components of freight loading during the above period were 30.15 million tonnes of Iron Ore, 12.46 million tonnes of Coal, 5.40 million tonnes of Pig-Iron & Finished Steel, 3.80 million tonnes of Cement, etc. In the Iron Ore sector, there is a growth of 18.47% in comparison to the same period (April to July) of last year.

As a result of this growth in freight loading, South Eastern  Railway has earned Rs. 4791.06 crores from freight sector during April-July of current fiscal, which is Rs. 704.18 crores more than the corresponding period of last year, recording a growth of 17.23%.


Record earnings through scrap sales by SER in the 1st quarter of 2019-20

Kolkata: Making South Eastern Railway a “Scrap Free Railway” has been one of the Mission areas of the year 2019-20. To realize value from the sale of unserviceable materials lying along Tracks, Workshops, Sheds, Coaching Depots, etc., numerous inspections were done and co-ordination meetings were conducted by Senior Railway Officers to identify and dispose of all such items of Scrap.

Due to continuous monitoring, South Eastern Railway has achieved exemplary Scrap Sale record of ₹44.97 crores in the first quarter of 2019-20, which is ₹9.37 Crores (26.32%) more than last year’s earnings during the same period. SER has also surpassed the first quarter Scrap Sale target of current year fixed by Railway Board.

SER has disposed of 6992 MT of Engineering Scrap, 24 Condemned Wagons, 44 Condemned Coaches, 235 MT of Scrap Non-ferrous, 2975 MT of Ferrous Scrap and 1,26,280 Nos. of released PSC Sleepers in the first quarter of 2019-20.

“Operation Number Plate” – Special drive in Railway premises by SERailway

Kolkata: Massive intensive Drives called “Operation Number Plate” were made all over South Eastern Railway during the period from 09.08.2019 to 11.08.2019 to identify and remove unclaimed/illegally parked vehicle close to Railway stations. All the four Divisions i.e Kharagpur, Adra, Ranchi and Chakradharpur conducted a raid on vehicles parked for more than five days in the parking area and found 83 vehicles were parked.

Similarly, raids were also conducted on vehicles parked for more than one day in “no parking “area and found 69 vehicles were parked.  As a result, 54 persons were arrested under section 159 of the Railway Act. and an amount of Rs. 2700/- was also realized as fine from 3 persons and other 51 persons were released on bail.

Besides, in 25 cases, the vehicles were handed over to owners. Another 17 cases were registered against unknown. In 56 cases verification is being done by GRP.

These kinds of Operations were undertaken as security measures in view of upcoming Independence Day and the drives will be continuing till 15.08.2019.
