SER hosts 41st All India Railway Bridge Championship
Kolkata: The 41st All India Railway Bridge Championship was inaugurated at South Eastern Railway Headquarters, Garden Reach on 20th November 2018. The Championship will be held from 20.11.18 to 22.11.18 under the aegis of South Eastern Railway Sports Association.
Additional General Manager, South Eastern Railway Anirban Datta inaugurated the tournament by declaring the meet open in presence of J. K. Saha, Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer and President, South Eastern Railway Sports Association along with Senior Railway Officers and a host of Bridge lovers. Anirban Datta while inaugurating the championship administered the Sports Pledge and conveyed good wishes to the team players and advised them to be competitive in a sporting manner during the tournament.
Altogether 5 Zonal Railways and Kolkata Port Trust with 50 players are participating in this 3-day event.
The Participating teams are from Central Railway, Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW), Metro Railway, Kolkata Port Trust, Eastern Railway and the host South Eastern Railway.
Many International Bridge Players who represented India in Bridge Olympiad, Bermuda Bowl, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games are seen in dealing the cards.
Growth in SER’s earnings from passenger traffic
Kolkata: During the first seven months i.e. April-October of the current financial year (2018-19), South Eastern Railway has earned Rs. 1218.92 crores from originating passenger traffic which is Rs.50.44 crores more than the corresponding period of last year i.e. 2017-18 thus registering a growth of 4.32%.
This growth in passenger earnings has been possible due to an increase in the number of passengers carried during the first seven months of the current financial year. During April-October of the current financial year, South Eastern Railway carried 157.25 million originating passengers as against 152.18 million originating passengers carried during the corresponding period of last financial year achieving a growth of 3.33%. Out of total 157.25 million originating passengers, 81.77 million were suburban passengers while 75.48 million were non-suburban passengers. The growth in the number of passengers has been observed both in suburban and non-suburban segments.
SER’s precautionary measures to run trains in foggy weather
Kolkata: In order to ensure Safety and Punctuality in train operations in the foggy weather during the ensuing winter, South Eastern Railway has undertaken following elaborate precautionary measures:-
1. Railway Board’s detailed instructions have been circulated to all Guards and Loco Pilots to reiterate the special instructions to run trains during foggy weather.
2. During dense foggy weather, drivers (Loco Pilots) have been instructed to regulate train speed to maximum 60 Kmph in poor visibility conditions for the safety of passengers and train movement. The Loco Pilots have also been advised to whistle frequently to warn the nearby gateman and road users of approaching train. To enforce this measure, train running staff are being counselled by the Railway Officers & Safety Counsellors.
3. The Guards of the trains have been instructed to watch that, the loco-pilots do not exceed the prescribed speed limit during fog. During the night as well as in the thick foggy or tempestuous weather impairing visibility during the day, a Red Tail Lamp displaying a flashing Red Light to indicate the last vehicle is being permitted.
4. SER has introduced Cold Weather Patrolling of railway track by deputing Winter Patrolman with proper training and Fog Signals to warn Loco Pilots and Guards about any eventuality.
5. Apart from this, surprise checks and Footplate inspections by Senior Officers of Divisions and Headquarters during late night and early morning hours i.e. from midnight to 07.00 hrs at all sensitive places have been intensified.
Conversion of Kharagpur-Bhardak and Balasore-Bhadrak trains into MEMU
Kolkata: It has been decided that existing conventional rake of 58007/58008 Kharagpur-Bhadrak Passenger and 58029/58030 Balasore-Bhadrak Passenger will be replaced by 12 car MEMU rake w.e.f 19.11.2018.
Accordingly, 58007/58008 Kharagpur-Bhadrak Passenger will be renumbered as 68049/68050 Kharagpur-Bhadrak MEMU Passenger and 58029/58030 Balasore-Bhadrak Passenger will be renumbered as 68051/68052 Balasore-Bhadrak MEMU Passenger w.e.f 19.11.18.
* 68049 Kharagpur-Bhadrak MEMU Passenger leaving Kharagpur at 07.00 hrs, will reach Bhadrak at 10.55 hrs. In the return direction, 68050 Bhadrak-Kharagpur MEMU Passenger leaving Bhadrak at 16.10 hrs will arrive Kharagpur at 19.55 hrs.
* 68051 Balasore-Bhadrak MEMU Passenger leaving Balasore at 14.30 hrs, will reach Bhadrak at 15.55 hrs. In the return direction, 68052 Bhadrak-Balasore MEMU Passenger leaving Bhadrak at 11.10 hrs will arrive Balasore at 12.40 hrs.
Conversion of Garbeta-Ranchi into MEMU with extension upto Kharagpur
Kolkata: It has been decided that existing conventional rake of 58163/58164 Garbeta-Ranchi Passenger will be replaced by 12 car MEMU rake and extended upto Kharagpur w.e.f 19.11.2018.
Accordingly, 58163/58164 Garbeta-Ranchi Passenger will be renumbered and named as 68085/68086 Kharagpur-Garbeta-Ranchi MEMU Passenger w.e.f 19.11.18.
* 68085 Kharagpur-Garbeta-Ranchi MEMU Passenger leaving Kharagpur at 04.45 hrs, will reach Garbeta at 05.53 hrs and depart at 05.55 hrs. The train will reach Ranchi at 13.00 hrs. In the return direction, 68086 Ranchi-Garbeta-Kharagpur MEMU Passenger leaving Ranchi at 15.22 hrs will arrive Garbeta at 21.15 hrs and will depart at 21.17 hrs.
The train will arrive at Kharagpur at 22.45 hrs. In the extended portion between Garbeta and Kharagpur, the train will stop at Chandrakona Road, Salboni, Midnapur and Giri Maidan stations.
