GROWTH IN SER’s FREIGHT EARNINGS

Kolkata: During the first five months i.e. April-August of the current financial year (2018-19), South Eastern Railway has earned Rs. 5064.07 crores from originating freight traffic which is Rs. 328.30 crores more than the corresponding period of last year i.e. 2017-18 thus registering a growth of 6.93%.

This growth in freight earnings has been possible due to the increase in freight loading during the above period. South Eastern Railway’s total freight loading during April-August of the current financial year has been 62.41 million tonnes as against 61.13 million tonnes loaded during the corresponding period of last year recording a growth of 2.09 %.

In the month of August 2018, South Eastern Railway loaded 13.06 million tonnes of freight surpassing the target of 12.80 million tonnes.  This volume of traffic is ever highest in the month of August during the preceding years.

Coal loading during April-August of the current financial year has been 13.90 million tonnes which is a growth of 56% in comparison to the corresponding period of last year. The other major components of freight loading during the above period were 32.37 million tonnes of Iron Ore, 6.36 million tonnes of Pig-Iron & Finished Steel, 4.69 million tonnes of Cement etc.


SER has earned Rs. 708.71 crores from originating passenger traffic

Kolkata: During the first four months i.e. April-July of the current financial year (2018-19), South Eastern Railway has earned Rs. 708.71 crores from originating passenger traffic which is Rs.27.40 crores more than the corresponding period of last year i.e. 2017-18 thus registering a growth of 4.02%.

This growth in passenger earnings has been possible due to the increase in a number of passengers carried during the first four months of the current financial year. During April-July of the current financial year, South Eastern Railway carried 89.53 million originating passengers as against 86.76 million originating passengers carried during the corresponding period of last financial year achieving a growth of 3.19%.

Out of total 89.53 million originating passengers, 46.09 million were suburban passengers while 43.44 million were non-suburban passengers. There has been a growth of 1.24% in the number of suburban passengers and 5.35% in the number of nonsuburban passengers during the first four months of the current financial year in comparison to the corresponding period of last year.


SER RPF PERSONNEL REALISED AN AMOUNT OF RS 61.82 LAKHS & HUGE CONTRABAND GOODS

Kolkata: Railway Protection Force of South Eastern Railway has been playing an active role in addressing security concerns and ensuring a secure environment for a passenger over the railways. The vast reserve of railway property is required to be protected by the RPF with utmost sincerity and alertness. SER’s RPF team has successfully kept on guarding the railway property against theft and other crimes.

During the month of July 2018, SER’s RPF Personnel has done commendable security work to foil the criminal activity over four Divisions of this railway. The key security activities during the month of July are given as under:-

· 20 criminals were arrested for theft of passenger belongings at different stations over SER.

· 37 numbers of bags and belongings were recovered. This apart, 1200 pouches of country-made liquor, 28 bundles of Kendu leaves & 147 bundles of firework were also realized.

· 62 offenders were arrested under RP (UP) Act for unlawful possession of railway property valued Rs. 1,83,360/-

· 6,682 offenders including 20 touts and 957 unauthorized vendors/hawkers were booked under different sections of the Railway Act with the realization of fine amounting to Rs. 13, 24,220/-

· 23,913 ticketless travelers were apprehended during the joint drives conducted by RPF and Commercial Department and an amount of Rs. 48,58,011/- was realized as fine from them.

· 139 minor Boys and 22 minor Girls were rescued by RPF Personnel and handed over to their parents/NGO viz. child line etc.
