GM/NCR ​conducts inspection of Allahabad-Vindhyachal section

Reviews arrangements for progress of station development works at Vindhyachal

Allahabad: GM/NCR, M. C. Chauhan conducted a window trailing inspection from Allahabad to Vindhyachal by train no. 14056 (Brahmaputra Mail). Window-trailing inspection is a specialized inspection in the Indian Railways in which the track and its surrounding installations like signals, OHE, platforms etc are inspected from the rear window of an inspection car attached to a moving train.

During the inspection, important parameters like cleanliness and overall condition of stations falling en-route, riding quality of the train-especially on points and crossings, progress of work of Dedicated Freight Corridor, Improvement in Track Geometry Index (TGI), Condition of level crossing gates en-route etc were observed by the GM/NCR. GM/NCR observed the work of installation wide-base sleepers in 7.5 km stretch between Cheoki and Karchana stations and advised that the work should be expedited as it has a direct impact on the improvement of safety.

It is pertinent to mention here that these sleepers weigh 100 kg more than conventional sleepers and at 385​ ​Kg weight per sleeper, and with a much wider base compared to normal sleepers, exhibit much better track holding and running quality. GM/NCR also inspected sites prone to Cattle Run Over (CRO cases) and advised that such sites should be fenced. He reviewed the progress of Ballast Cleaning Machines (BCM) and advised that more blocks should be given to BCM.

He also advised that abandoned cabins on trackside which had become dilapidated should be dismantled while those OK should be converted into ‘gang huts’ to provide shelter to gangs working on track during inclement weather. After the window trailing inspection, GM/NCR inspected the Vindhyachal Station. He first inspected the arrangements for the passenger shelters are developed at the stations. GM inspected the same and interacted with pilgrims and took their feedback.

At Vindhyachal station GM also inspected the passenger amenities, waiting rooms, platforms, toilets, PRS, Booking Office, Catering Units, Cleanliness, and Circulating Area. He reviewed the of the work of progress of new facade of the station and gave instructions to increase circulating area of the station before next mela.

He also inspected the new utility block to be constructed at the station for st. john ambulance brigade, ayurvedic center, lost and found the center. He gave instructions for improvement in the design of the same.  GM gave group awards of Rs 10,000 to the team involved in mela arrangement comprising of commercial, medical, RPF and scout & guides, and Rs 5000 to engineering team responsible for facade improvement of the station.


Annual GM inspection of Tundla-Kanpur section of Allahabad Division

GM/NCR lanches 8 mobile applications for improving Railway Working

Allahabd: GM/NCR M. C. Chauhan conducted GM’s annual inspection of Tundla-Kanpur section of Allahabad Division of North Central Railway. The inspection started from Tundla, included the track from the rear window of the inspection car as well as one Major Curve, one Level Crossing, Maintenance-Gangs of Engineering, Tractions Distribution, Carriage & Wagon and Operating departments, Three Stations (Tundla and Firozabad, and Etawah), One  Railway Colony (Rura), One Minor Bridge, One Major Bridge, and one turnout. Besides the above, GM/NCR also inspected the RPF Posts at the stations and gave awards to those posts whose maintenance was found to be superior.

At Tundla station GM/NCR inspected the Centralized Traffic Control (CTC), which is the first centralized control in North Central Railway. The construction of the CTC is complete and it is going to become functional in the near future. With the commissioning of the CTC the traffic planning, decision making and safety will drastically increase in the section from Kanpur to Ghaziabad. At Tundla, GM/NCR also inspected the newly constructed running room, the crew lobby and the BLC Monitoring Centre, Health Unit and the ART & ARME (Accident Relief Train and Accident Relief Medical Equipment train).

At Firozabad, GM/NCR commissioned the Computerized Train Signal Register System (ETSR) by pressing a button on the computer screen via a mouse. At Firozabad, the newly renovated RPF barrack and newly constructed Children’s Park were inaugurated by railway staff in the presence of GM/NCR.

At all three stations-Tundla, Firozabad and Etawah- GM/NCR inspected the passenger amenities, waiting rooms, platforms, toilets, PRS, Booking Office, Catering Units, Cleanliness, and Circulating Area. Tree plantation was also conducted at Tundla and Firozabad. During the inspection of the various facilities en-route from Tundla to Kanpur, GM/NCR also conducted a thorough check of the track parameters.

He also gave close attention to the condition of the road surface at LC gates, and the equipment that is used to maintain the track and other related facilities. GM advised that steps should be taken to improve the visibility of the LC gates for the road users.

During the inspection the upkeep, maintenance, cleanliness and the general condition of the section and stations was found to be good. GM/NCR gave away cash awards to individual staff/group of staff for their dedication to duty, good knowledge and performance.

During the window trailing portion of the inspection, GM/NCR launched 8 mobile applications developed by various departments of NCR with the objective of making the working of the railways smoother and more accessible to the concerned officers and staff. The apps launched were:

1. Rolling Stock Operations Monitoring App, 2. CLW Depot management app, 3. Engineering Block Monitoring System App, 4. Traction Monitoring and Maintenance App, 5. In-Touch (real-time monitoring application), 6. Nirakaran App, 7. Railway Telecom Redressal App, 8. File Management App.

A speed trial at 120km/hr was also conducted from Etawah to Phaphund which went off successfully. In the inspection, GM/NCR interacted extensively with the staff and tested them on their knowledge about their work and duties. He also enquired into their welfare and advised the concerned officers to take special care of the welfare of the staff working in the section.

During the inspection of the section, GM/NCR met representatives of the press and media at Tundla, Firozabad, Etawah and Govindpuri stations and informed them about the important projects being completed/commissioned in this section and the positive impact that their completion would have on train operations. GM also informed the press and media about the provisions made in the new budget for Allahabad Division. PHODs of NCR, DRM Allahabad and Commissioner of Railway Safety (NE Circle) accompanied in the inspection.
