Veteran leader & ex-MP Basudeb Acharia attacked by TMC goons

Purulia: Veteran CPI(M) leader and ex-MP Basudeb Acharia were allegedly attacked by TMC goons on Friday, 6th April 2018 when he accompanied his party members to fill-up nomination forms for upcoming Panchayat polls.

The incident happened in Kashipur block of Purulia district of the state. Acharia was brutally roughed up and is currently admitted in ICU in Purulia Sadar hospital. Acharia is a member of CPI(M)’s Central Committee.

“Com. Basuda was very close to Indian Railway Running Staff”, said Sunish C., running staff leader and a loco pilot. ‘During the removal of two Loco Pilots of SWR he intervened and find a solution’, he said. While he was working as Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Railways, the committee visited Bengaluru during 2004.

He informed me and invited to attend the discussion. We prepare a memorandum. When I went there, our DRM was standing in front of the door and not permitted our representatives inside, he told.

He said that when I called him on mobile and in turn we were received inside. GM, COM and other Zonal officers, all DRM’s, Recognised union office bearers were inside. After starting the meeting he explained the purpose of the meeting and invited me to address first. We have just started our trade union activities at that time.

Later whenever he is visiting Bengaluru for any purpose he will call me and inform the details. Com. Acharya is a very simple leader with vast knowledge of running staff and railway issues. Said Sunish.
