Chennai: Administration of Southern Railway last month dismissed nine women travelling ticket examiners (TTEs) who barged into the room of the then Chief Commercial Manager (CCM) Ajeet Saxena in March 2016. While seven of them have been issued ‘removal from service’ and two have been issued a ‘dismissal’ order, sources said.
The dismissal was issued after an enquiry by the Chennai Division of Southern Railway found them guilty of unlawful activity. In case of dismissal, the employee is disqualified from future employment while in case of removal there is no such disqualification.
The nine TTEs had forcibly entered then CCM Ajeet Saxena’s cabin and tried to gherao him. In a police complaint filed then, Mr Saxena alleged that they used foul language and locked the main door disallowing other officers to enter his chamber.
‘Forcibly entering the CCM’s chamber along with other ladies without his permission, preventing officers to enter CCM’s chamber and trying to unlawfully detain the CCM inside his chamber with an ulterior motive’ were the charges framed against the TTEs. This is a violation of Railway service conduct rules.
A few days after the incident, the confession letters were written by some of the TTEs stating that they had been led by an office-bearer of Southern Railway Mazdoor Union (SRMU) aka ‘Mafia Union’, the sole recognised union of the zone. These all confession letters are in the possession of ‘Railway Samachar’.
These TTEs, all from Chennai Division, led by an office-bearer of Southern Railway Mazdoor Union (who might not be an employee) have their own ‘reservations’.

8. Smt. T. Anitha, Dy.CTI
9. Smt. Annie Regina, Dy.CTI
‘Railway Samachar’ also have Dy. CTI Smt. Annie Regina’s audio confession. The english transcript of that audio will be publish late.
The only difference between dismissal and removal is that in the latter case there is no disqualification for reemployment. In the case of dismissal, the employee is disqualified from future employment while in the case of removal he is not debarred from getting future employment.
Ajeet Saxena retired from Southern Railway in March but could not take up a top post in the Railway Claims Tribunal (RCT) after SRMU obtained a stay on his appointment in Madras high court.
