“India’s Railway Man” – A Biography of Dr. E. Sreedharan

The message of his life should be an inspiration to all and must be read by one and all

A biographical book on Dr. E. Sreedharan, ‘India’s Railway Man’, endorsed by him with a signed note in it was locally launched at his hands at his residence in Ponnani, Kerala, on Wednesday, 2nd August 2017.

The book written by Mumbai-based journalist Rajendra B. Aklekar and published by Rupa Publications, New Delhi, was nationally launched by Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu earlier this February.

The book, that is now getting translated in multiple languages, has interesting anecdotes from Dr. Sreedharan’s life- right from childhood to post-retirement.

The author’s contention is that with such wide-spread contribution in Indian Railways from getting the Pamban Bridge built in 45 days to building the Konkan Railway, besides getting the Metro Railway technology in India, Dr. Sreedharan should not just be called Metro Man, but India’s Railway Man too.

The book is available in English at book stores and in online across the world on Amazon and Flipkart.

“Spending time with Dr. E. Sreedharan in Ponnani in Kerala was the biggest honour of my lifetime. It was a learning process to learn about this icon. I wrote this book out of curiosity.” said Rajendra B. Aklekar.

One of the things that fascinated to the author about this person was that he has built India’s most iconic projects like the Konkan Railway, the Delhi Metro and numerous other metro lines within budget and deadlines.

There are scores of railway engineer officers but this one man has got national awards like Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan and even international honours from France and Japan governments, in addition to honorary doctorates from various universities.

How does this one man always succeed? What is the secret? Discipline, integrity, hard work and commitment. His biography that I have written shares secrets of his success, his battles at various levels and his regrets. says Rajendra B. Aklekar.

He says, In the process, I found he is also one of the most hated guys in the railways. There’s a separate chapter on that too with Sreedharan’s views on his criticism. The best part is Dr. Sreedharan sir has himself read the work and endorsed it. The book includes a signed note from him.

The message of his life should be an inspiration to all and must be read by one and all.

It is now available across the world in print edition at book stores and online at discount.

An e-book edition in Kindle format is also available on Amazon.in, just for Rs 85.

Indian Print edition price on Amazon.in Rs. 207/-. Print edition on Flipkart Rs. 176/-.

Rajendra B. Aklekar is the author of two books on trains and railways in India. Biographer: ‘India’s Railway Man- Dr. E. Sreedharan’ and ‘Halt Station India’, a best-selling book on the romance and history of India’s first rail line, short-listed as Best Non-Fiction at Bangalore Literary Fest 2015, now into its fourth imprint.
