South Eastern Railway gains momentum in freight loading

A number of concessions/discounts are being given by SERly to make freight movement by railways attractive.

South Eastern Railway has generated a revenue of Rs. 1440.36 crores from freight loading in the month of December 2020 as against Rs. 1262.85 crores in December 2019 registering a growth of 14.06%.

The growth comes despite a significant contraction of the economy over the past several months due to the disruption created by the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the month of December, 2020 South Eastern Railway has loaded 16.63 million tonnes of freight as against 15.49 million tonnes loaded in December, 2019 registering a growth of 7.36%.

This leads to surpass the target of 15.59 million tonnes of freight loading fixed for the month of December 2020 by loading 1.04 million tonnes more than the target.

The main commodities of freight loading of SER were Iron Ore, Coal, Pig Iron and Finished Steel, Cement, Food Grains, Fertiliser etc.

A number of concessions/discounts are being given by South Eastern Railway to make freight movement by railways attractive.

With a view to attract new business, Senior Officers of South Eastern Railway have been regularly holding meetings with representatives of different industries and freight customers.

The formation of Business Development Units at Zonal and Divisional levels and increase in speed of freight trains have also contributed to the growth of freight loading.
