Southern Railway surrendering non-safety vacant posts, but not a single word spoken by the union

Most of the top office bearers are either retired but occupying their respective posts for their self interests

Chennai: “Not a single word spoken by the SRMU, the recognised union of the Southern Railway about the surrendering  of 50% of vacancies in non safety category vacant posts in Southern Railway in the recent webinar with the Railway Minister”, said office bearers of the rival unions.

Nothing better is expected from a union led by a person who chose to resign from the Railway service and chose to cling on the union post only to sell the rights of the Railway men, they said.

He says, “It is worthwhile to point out that the government is continuously returning the favour by not initiating any action against him inspite of several complaints and prima facie evidences against him.”

If half of the vacancies are not filled there will be additional work pressure on the already strained workforce of the all Zonal Railways.

The recognised union, SRMU, instead of questioning this move is turning a blind eye to the situation.

It is important to note that though there was a whole hearted approval in favour of strike from the employees of Southern Railway in the referendum conducted by the recognised union, SRMU, couple of years ago not a single step is taken till date in this regard.

“Most of the top office bearers of the Unions and Federations are either retired or resigned from the Railway service and occupying their respective posts for their self interests”, the office bearers said.
