GM/NCR-NR reviewed safety and other important items on North Central Railway
General Manger, North Central Railway and Northern Railway Rajiv Chaudhry reviewed the position of safety, infrastructure development, punctuality and other important items through video conference with PHODs of North Central Railway and Divisional Railway Managers Prayagraj, Jhansi and Agra.
First of all safety in train operations was discussed. GM emphasised that eyes and ears of alert Railwaymen available by side of track in form of train passing staff are critical to safe train operations however their efforts should be augmented with help of machines.
North Central is the pioneer Railway in the field of automated way side monitoring of trains and have installed many advanced systems for monitoring of moving trains over Prayagraj and other divisions. Hot Axle and Hot wheel detectors (HAHW) for identifying hot axle and brake binding in moving trains, Wheel Impact load detector (WILD) for identifying flat wheel or wheel with out of roundness, Online Rolling stock monitoring system (OMRS) a combination of HAHW and WILD, Hanging part detection system (HPDS) for identifying loose and unsafe object in running train, CCTV at Rolling in examination points for visual examination of train etc. are installed at different locations over NCR.
With each equipment having different capability of defect identification it is of utmost important that a judicious mix of these equipment is installed to cover all defects over the entire territory of North Central Railway. Speaking in the video Conference GM Sri Rajiv Chaudhry directed Mechanical, Traffic and Safety departments for comprehensive review of requirements for each automated system and to process sanction/installation of additional systems on priority. This is particularly important in view of increasing speed of trains and reduction of gateman with replacement of level crossing with ROBs/ RUBs.
North Central Railway has been maintaining excellent punctuality of 98% plus in July-2020and has achieved 100% punctuality on many occasions. Reviewing punctuality, GM Shri Chaudhry remarked that station to station punctuality monitoring will help in identifying train running capacity of major station w.r.t. to adjacent block sections and inputs for station or block section can be planned in a better way. Removal of this throughput imbalance between station and block section during the current lean period will help immensely in maintaining improved punctuality even during normal passenger operations.
On the front of infrastructure development critical works related to train operations, passenger amenities etc. were discussed. To give impetus to freight loading North Central Railway is giving vital inputs to goods sheds over its territory. Under this initiative immediate inputs for completion within next 15 days and major inputs spread over next three months have been identified for important goods sheds on North Central Railway.
On the front of human resource, GM directed the Personal branch for timely finalisation of compassionate appointment cases to ensure that all benefits to eligible family members of deceased employees are rendered in time.
