GM/SER awards laptop/notebook to girls child of railway employees
Kolkata: General Manager, South Eastern Railway Sanjay Kumar Mohanty awarded 16 girl children studying in class-XI and XII of railway employees working in Level-1 & 2 with Laptop/Notebook/Tablet at SER Headquarters, Garden Reach on 1st October.
These were given to the children under the aegis of the Central Staff Benefit Fund (CSBF) to encourage them in the sphere of academics. Additional General Manager, S E Railway Anupam Sharma and other Principal Heads of Departments were present at the awarding ceremony.
During the current financial year, 222 girl children of railway employees of Level-1 & 2 are being awarded laptop/notebook/tablet in four divisions i.e Kharagpur, Adra, Chakradharpur and Ranchi.
The scheme of awarding laptop/notebook/tablet to girl children of employees in Level-1 and studying in Class-XI & XII was started from the year 2017-18. Last year, 130 girl students were awarded a laptop, notebook, tablet.
Under Construction Cover Over Platform collapses at Shalimar
Kolkata: One under construction cover over platform outside passenger area collapsed at Shalimar Station at about 15:00 hours on 30th September 2019. No passenger has been injured. The construction work is being executed by IRCON as a part of the Shalimar Station Development Project. As per information received, injury of construction workers has been reported and shifted to hospital where Dukha Chaupal was declared dead and Alamgir Mallik is under treatment. Divisional Railway Manager, Kharagpur with other Divisional Officers attended the site, along with Senior Officials of S E Railway Headquarters and IRCON to supervise the rescue operation. The concrete structure was cast in May 2019 and its scaffolding was being removed when it collapsed.
High-Level Inquiry Committee has been formed by Sanjay Kumar Mohanty, General Manager, S E Railway consisting of multidisciplinary officers.
As a result of the incident, train service has been partially disrupted due to damage of Over Head Equipment (OHE), train no. 18007 Shalimar-Bhanjpur-Simlipal Express will be short originated from Santragachi instead of Shalimar today. Moreover, 22641 Thiruvananthapuram-Shalimar Express will be short terminated at Padmapukur, 22862 Adra-Shalimar Rajya Rani Express will be short terminated at Santragachi and 12886 Bhojudih-Shalimar Aranyak Express will be short terminated at Santragachi today.
MPs of Divisional Committee hold meeting with SERailway
Kolkata: The meeting of the Divisional Committee comprising of Hon’ble Members of Parliament both from Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha under the jurisdiction of Kharagpur and Adra Divisions of South Eastern Railway was held at Kolkata on 30th September. The Divisional Committee Meeting was chaired by Dilip Ghosh, Member of Parliament.
The other Members of Parliament who attended the meeting were viz. Smt. Manjulata Mandal, Dr. Subhash Sarkar, Sunil Kumar Mondal, Soumitra Khan, Dr. Kunar Hembram, Jyotirmoy Singh Mahto, Pashupati Nath Singh, Sanjay Seth, Shishir Adhikari, Smt. Sajida Ahmed and Bishweswar Tudu and offered their valuable suggestions for the overall development of South Eastern Railway.

General Manager, South Eastern Railway Sanjay Kumar Mohanty while welcoming the Members of Parliament highlighted the services rendered by South Eastern Railway to its users in respect of passenger amenities, the introduction of Mail/Express trains, running of special trains, the status of ongoing projects, etc. General Manager assured the Hon’ble Members of Parliament for providing passenger amenities, safety, and security of passengers with effective and efficient supervision by this railway.
MPs held discussions on issues associated with new and existing train services, stoppages, an extension of trains, passenger facilities, cleanliness, Road Over Bridge, expeditious completion of railway projects, drinking water facility at stations, etc. for the benefit of the passengers. MPs exchanged their views and evaluated the performance of SERailway.
MPs of the Divisional Committee of Kharagpur and Adra Divisions assured cooperation for the smooth functioning of the railway. The meeting was attended by the Divisional Railway Manager, Kharagpur & Adra and all the Principal Head of the Departments of South Eastern Railway.
The necessity of holding this kind of High-Level Meeting is to have direct communication between railway administration and the Hon’ble MPs for exchange of information and innovative ideas to improve amenities, safety, and security of the passengers to sustain the confidence of traveling passengers as well as rail users.
Sanjay Kumar Mohanty takes over as new GM/SER
Kolkata: Sanjay Kumar Mohanty has taken over as the new General Manager of South Eastern Railway. Prior to this, Shri Mohanty was posted as Principal Executive Director, Traffic Transportation, Railway Board, New Delhi.
Shri Mohanty is an alumnus of the Delhi School of Economics and belongs to the 1985 batch of Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS).
He worked in various important posts in Indian Railways viz. Senior Deputy General Manager and Chief Vigilance Officer in East Coast Railway, Divisional Railway Manager at Khurda Road Division, etc.
Shri Mohanty also worked with distinction in various Senior Capacities at Mumbai, Nagpur, Jhansi and Konkan Railway where he was well known as a System Builder for various innovations in administration. His contribution in Rail Transportation over Indian Railways is noteworthy, vast and varied.
He has a keen interest in Sports and other Socio-Cultural activities.
