SER emerges champions in 33rd AIR Body Building Championship

Kolkata: South Eastern Railway emerged Champions in the 33rd All India Railway Body Building Championship held at Kharagpur from 22nd to 24th February 2019 organized by South Eastern Railway Sports Association (SERSA). The 2nd and 3rd positions were bagged by Central Railway and Southern Railway respectively.

S E Railway has consecutively bagged 1st Position in the last 6 years in the All India Railway Body Building Championship. The Gold Medal Winners of S E Railway’s team were J J Chakraborty, Aswin Shetty, N Sarbo Singh, and Javed Ali Khan. N Sarbo Singh of S E Railway became the Champion of Champions.

As many as 93 bodybuilders coming from different Zonal Railways and Production Units including Railway Board participated in the tournament. The participating Railways were Southern Railway, South Western Railway, Integral Coach Factory, Central Railway, Western Railway, Northern Railway, North Central Railway, West Central Railway, Northeast Frontier Railway, South East Central Railway, South Central Railway, and South Eastern Railway.

Anupam Sharma, Additional General Manager, S E Railway gave away the prizes to the Winner S E Railway & other teams and encouraged them to do their best in the years to come. Sri K R K Reddy, Divisional Railway Manager, Kharagpur, and other Senior Officers along with sports lovers were present.


Ranchi and Digha to be developed as Eco-Smart stations

Kolkata: South Eastern Railway has decided to develop Ranchi Station in Jharkhand and Digha Station in West Bengal as Eco-Smart Stations of this Zone. The provision of taking suggestion and grievance for Eco Smart Stations has been created on Public Web Page of South Eastern Railway. An email,  ecosmart.stn@ser.railnet.gov.in has also been created for receiving suggestions and grievances in this connection.

The following measures are being taken in connection with the development of Ranchi and Digha as Eco-Smart Stations:

Compliance of Plastic and Solid Waste Management Rules -2106 at the stations including track within station limit-

* Discharge of Effluent, * Use of alternate source of energy, * Development of Eco-Friendly Toilets, * Installation of Bottle Crushing Machine, * Ban on Plastic Carry Bag, cups including its enforcement at Catering and other stalls, * Rodent and Pest Control Management in station premises, * Wastewater/Sewage treatment, water recycling and reuse, * Afforestation and plantation with the help of Forest Department, * Water and Energy audit etc.


Record revenue in scrap sale by SER before the end of current FY

Kolkata: In order to generate additional revenue, South Eastern Railway has earned Rs. 209.36 Crores from Scrap Sale surpassing the proportionate target of Rs. 192 crores set by Ministry of Railways, well ahead of the target date.  The Scrap Sale by South Eastern Railway in the current year has surpassed the entire sale of last year of Rs. 171.80 Crores.  Which is 21.86%  more than the total sale of last financial year. All these scrap materials have been sold in a transparent and competitive manner through E-Auction.

This record revenue has been possible due to regular monitoring of this activity and intense supervision at senior officers level for prompt identification of scrap and offering the scrap for E-Auction.

The major component of the Scrap Sale are  25,262 MT of engineering scrap (which includes scrap rails), 11,004 MT of other ferrous scrap, 1455 MT of non-ferrous scrap, 511 Nos. of condemned wagons, 172 Nos. of condemned coaches and 7 Nos. of condemned Diesel Locomotives which have been disposed off so far in current financial year. S E Railway has launched a mission to become scrap free railway.
Earnings from the sale of scrap not only increase the railway’s revenue but also helps in keeping tracks, stations, workshops, and depots neat and clean.


Record growth in SER’s passenger traffic

Kolkata: South Eastern Railway’s performance in passenger traffic has also been spectacular in the current financial year. During the first ten months of current fiscal (from April 2018 to January 2019),  S E Railway has been able to earn Rs.1725.58 crore from originating passenger traffic, registering an increase of 5.07% over the figure of Rs.1642.37 crore yielded during the corresponding period of last year.

During the above period, S E Railway carried 222.85 million originating passengers which is 6.42 million passengers more than the corresponding period of the previous year, registering a growth of 2.97%.
