SER lays stress on CCTV Surveillance to enhance passenger security

Kolkata: South Eastern Railway has provided CCTV based Surveillance system at its important stations to enhance safety and security of the passengers. Till now, 533 CCTV Cameras have been installed at major and important stations of SER to ensure the security of the passengers.  The important stations where CCTV Cameras have been installed are Kharagpur, Midnapur, Santragachi, Jhargram, Gidhni, Sardiha, Ranchi, Muri, Tatanagar, Chakradharpur, Jharsuguda, Rourkela, Monoharpur, Goilkera, Jaraikela, Adra, Purulia, Bokaro Steel City, Godapiasal, Salboni, Piardoba etc.

CCTV footage is being monitored round the clock and on getting information about any untoward incident, immediate action is taken by the Task Force/Quick Response Team. Moreover, in some of the stations of SER, monitoring has become possible from Headquarters Office also through net connectivity. To extend the topmost priority to passenger security, the regular analysis is being done to identify the spots, sections, stations and trains prone to crime viz. dacoity, snatching, robbery etc. Accordingly, security arrangements have also been strengthened through intense RPF patrolling to ensure safety and security of the passengers and their belongings. This is done in close coordination with the state authority.

This apart, in order to prevent crimes in railway areas and premises, South Eastern Railway has planned to install CCTV Cameras at 33 stations from Nirbhaya Fund.  This Nirbhaya Fund support has been initiated towards protecting the dignity and ensuring the safety of women in railways by installing CCTV Cameras for quick response system to create deterrence against crimes. Rs. 7 crores have been sanctioned to install CCTV Cameras covering 33 densely populated stations. Till now, CCTV monitoring has been provided at Balasore and Digha stations under the Nirbhaya Fund and 16 Cameras have been installed at both the stations.

To enhance safety & security of woman passengers in SER’s suburban sections, CCTV Cameras have been installed in Ladies Compartments of all new rakes of GPS based 3 phase indigenous EMU trains running in suburban sections of Kharagpur Division. Seven number of CCTV Cameras have been installed in each Ladies compartment of these suburban trains. There are further plans to equip all premier trains including Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto with a modern surveillance system in coming days.


Shalimar-Patna Duranto Express Upgarded as “Utkrisht”

Kolkata: The 1st Utkrisht Rake in South Eastern Railway will run as 22213/22214 Shalimar-Patna Duronto Express leaving Shalimar today night (24.12.18). This is the 3rd rake to be upgraded as Utkrisht Rake over Indian Railways. Apart from this rake, the work of upgradation of rakes of 12245/12246 Howrah–Yesvantpur Duronto Express and 22891/22892 Howrah – Ranchi  Intercity Express are also in pipeline.

PROJECT UTKRISHT : In order to improve the condition of coaches running in Mail/ Express trains, Indian Railways launched “Project Utkrisht” in April 2018 to upgrade 66 pairs of trains comprising of 140 rakes.

The cost of the upgraded each rake has been pegged at Rs. 60 lakhs. Work is under progress in the 5 rakes of the above two trains at coaching depots of Padmapukur, Santragachi, and Hatia. It is targetted to complete the work in all the 5 rakes by the end of the current financial year.

The upgradation work has been completed in 22213/22214 Shalimar-Patna Duronto Express making it the first upgraded rake to be put in service by South Eastern Railway on the date 24.12.18.
