WAP-5 loco with latest technology is capable of hauling the prestigious trains
Indian Railways rolls out First Aerodynamically And Ergonomically Designed WAP-5 Loco No. 30164
New Delhi: Indian Railways rolled out its first aerodynamically and ergonomically designed locomotive, WAP-5 Loco No. 30164. With a speed potential of 200 kmph, the new WAP locomotive with state-of-the-art technology will be capable of hauling the Railways’ prestigious trains viz. Rajdhani, Gatimaan & Shatabdi Express trains at a higher speed.
Salient Features of The Aerodynamically Designed WAP-5 Loco No. 30164:
* The cab profile with 45 degree inclination will help reduce air drag at a higher speed with advantageous spin-offs viz. greater energy efficiency, better dynamic stability during high-speed operations and improved acceleration.
* With the increased driver visibility angle at 69o, the aerodynamic cab would equip the driver with better safety capabilities.
* The engines are equipped with better gear ratio, the motor and gear side coupling accomplished with combined curved tooth coupling. This would enable reliability and maintainability eliminating conventional use of rubber membrane and oil.
* The cab is equipped with digitally enhanced capabilities viz. Crew Voice and Video Recording System (CVVRS) for on-board driving data recording and analysis especially post-event analysis. 8 Nos. Day/Night Camera and microphones and DVR (Digital Video Recording) with 90 days data storage facility are provided for the same.
Electrical Signal Exchange Lamp: This feature will assist loco pilot to exchange signal with guard and station staff by operation of switches from inside of cab. This will improve crew comfort at higher speed.
* The key advantages of this aerodynamically designed locomotive WAP-5 engine included its high compatibility features. Through this, the locomotive caters to needs viz. energy conversion for hotel load energy (energy for coaches), head-on energy generation, capable of push-pull operations, upgradability of digital software through suitable software modification for 6000 HP locomotives.
